Rash Driving Injures Four Near Greater Noida College, Driver Arrested: Police

Greater Noida: A driver was arrested after allegedly driving a car rashly and negligently and hitting four people near a college in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on September 18, when the car allegedly hit four students who were walking near the college. According to police, one of the students suffered an injury to his leg, while the other three were not seriously injured.

What happened near the Greater Noida college?

According to the complaint filed by the injured student, identified as Gaurav, 20, he was walking towards the college with his friends when the car allegedly came at high speed and hit them.

Police said information about the incident was received through social media, following which a case was registered and teams were formed to trace the vehicle and its driver. The car was later seized.

Another report identified the vehicle as a grey Maruti Alto. Police said the driver allegedly fled the spot after the collision before being traced.

Driver arrested, vehicle seized

The arrested driver was identified as Manish T, a resident of Ladpura in Kasna, Greater Noida. Police also took the vehicle's owner into custody, officials said.

Greater Noida DCP Ravishankar Neem said preliminary investigation indicated that the incident occurred because of rash and negligent driving. Police said further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 281, which deals with rash driving or riding on a public way, and Section 125(a) concerning acts endangering the life or personal safety of others.

Videos of the incident surface online

Videos purportedly showing the incident circulated on social media. One video shows the car hitting people near the college, while another appears to show vehicles being driven rashly in the area before the incident.

The authenticity of the videos has not been independently verified by Hindustan Times.

Police said the investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events.
