Shehzad Poonawalla Alleges Growing Unease Within TMC
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has claimed that a significant number of legislators from the ruling Trinamool Congress are distancing themselves from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Addressing the media, Poonawalla alleged that nearly 60 TMC MLAs are unhappy with the current state of affairs within the party and are gradually moving away from its leadership.
He further claimed that the party was facing internal challenges and that its grip over legislators was weakening.
‘Party Is Slipping Out of Her Hands’
Poonawalla asserted that the Trinamool Congress was witnessing increasing internal dissatisfaction and said the party was "slipping out of her hands," referring to Mamata Banerjee.
According to the BJP leader, recent political developments and public statements by some leaders indicate growing discomfort within the ruling camp.
However, he did not publicly provide evidence to substantiate the claim that 60 MLAs were distancing themselves from the party leadership.
BJP Steps Up Attack on TMC
The remarks are part of the BJP's continuing political offensive against the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of future electoral contests.
BJP leaders have repeatedly accused the ruling party of facing internal divisions, leadership challenges, and dissatisfaction among grassroots workers and elected representatives.
The saffron party has also cited recent resignations and public criticism by former TMC leaders as signs of unrest within the organization.
TMC Maintains Unity Narrative
The Trinamool Congress has consistently rejected allegations of internal instability and maintained that the party remains united under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
Party leaders have often dismissed similar claims by political opponents as attempts to create confusion among workers and supporters.
TMC representatives argue that the party continues to enjoy strong public support and remains focused on governance, welfare schemes, and development initiatives across West Bengal.
Political Speculation Intensifies
The claim comes at a time when West Bengal politics has been witnessing heightened activity, with both the BJP and TMC seeking to strengthen their positions ahead of upcoming political battles.
Political observers note that allegations regarding defections, dissatisfaction, and internal divisions are common features of political discourse, particularly in highly competitive states.
Analysts also point out that unless legislators publicly express dissent or take concrete political steps, such claims remain difficult to independently verify.
Bengal's Political Rivalry Remains Intense
The rivalry between the BJP and TMC continues to dominate West Bengal's political landscape, with both parties frequently exchanging allegations over governance, corruption, leadership, and organizational strength.
As political campaigning intensifies, statements from senior leaders are expected to play a key role in shaping narratives and influencing public perception.
For now, Poonawalla's remarks have added another layer to the ongoing political contest, while attention remains focused on whether any visible signs of dissent emerge within the ruling party.
