Shiv Sena MLC Bacchu Kadu Seeks Resignation of MPSC Chairman, Secretary Amid Exam Paper Leak Row

Mumbai: Shiv Sena MLC Bacchu Kadu has demanded the resignation of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) chairman and secretary on “moral grounds” amid the controversy surrounding the alleged leak of the Drug Inspector examination question paper.

Kadu's demand follows the arrest of six individuals, including three MPSC officials, in connection with the alleged leak of the question paper for the Drug Inspector (Group-B) screening examination held earlier this year.

Kadu demands accountability

In a social media post, Kadu said the top office-bearers of the commission should accept moral responsibility for the controversy and resign.

He said that if the officials did not step down, he would raise the matter with Maharashtra Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kadu also called for greater accountability within the commission and demanded a detailed examination of the functioning and appointment process of key officials.

Six arrested in paper leak case

The controversy erupted after police arrested six people, including three MPSC officials, over the alleged leak of the Drug Inspector examination paper.

According to officials, the accused allegedly accessed examination questions before the test, compiled them separately and circulated them to unauthorised persons.

The alleged leak prompted serious concerns over the security and confidentiality of competitive examinations conducted by the MPSC.

Demand for inquiry into appointments

Kadu also sought a detailed inquiry into the appointment of the commission's current joint secretary and controller of examinations.

He alleged that officials from the Mantralaya cadre had been deputed without the approval of the commission.

The Shiv Sena MLC argued that the MPSC chairman and members should have no political affiliations or connections.

He further suggested that the secretary of the commission should be a senior IAS officer rather than an official from the state secretariat cadre.

Criminal case sought against examination controller

Kadu also demanded action against the controller of examinations.

He argued that the position carries primary responsibility for ensuring the security and confidentiality of examination papers and the overall examination process.

The MLC said criminal proceedings should also be considered against those found responsible for lapses.

He warned that he could take to the streets in support of students and job aspirants affected by examination controversies.

MPSC admits paper leak

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission has acknowledged the leak involving the Drug Inspector Recruitment Examination paper and announced that the examination would be conducted again.

The development came after an investigation into the alleged breach, which raised serious questions about the integrity of the recruitment process.

Past exam controversies in Maharashtra

Kadu also referred to several controversies surrounding competitive examinations in Maharashtra over the years.

Previous examinations, including the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test, Health Department recruitment examinations and MHADA recruitment tests, have faced allegations of irregularities or paper leaks.

More recently, the 2026 Maharashtra TET examination was postponed after authorities reportedly seized a question paper before the scheduled test, with an SIT investigation initiated into the matter.

Pressure mounts on MPSC

The latest controversy has intensified concerns among students and job aspirants regarding the transparency and security of competitive examinations.

For many candidates, the cancellation or postponement of examinations can result in months of additional preparation and uncertainty.

Kadu's demand for the resignation of the MPSC chairman and secretary has now added a political dimension to the controversy.

As the investigation continues, attention will remain focused on whether further action is taken against officials allegedly connected to the paper leak and what measures are introduced to prevent similar incidents in future examinations.
