TTD Announces Rs 2 Lakh Insurance for Devotees

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to provide insurance coverage to devotees visiting Tirumala in partnership with LIC.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the initiative after reviewing TTD operations with officials. Under the proposed scheme, devotees will receive Rs 2 lakh in the event of death during their visit to the temple.

The insurance process will be Aadhaar-based and online, according to Naidu.

How the Devotee Insurance Scheme Will Work

The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to the family of a devotee in the unfortunate event of death during a visit to Tirumala.

TTD plans to use an online, Aadhaar-based process in partnership with LIC. Details regarding the precise operational procedure and claim process are expected to be communicated by the temple administration.

The initiative places pilgrim welfare alongside TTD's existing focus on managing large numbers of visitors and providing accommodation, transport, food and other services.

According to the development plan, 32 additional electric buses have been made available for pilgrim transportation. Reliance Foundation donated 25 buses, while Bharat Biotech donated seven.

With these additions, the number of electric buses operating for pilgrims in Tirumala has increased to 44.

Naidu also outlined plans to improve healthcare coordination in Tirupati.

The government intends to integrate major healthcare institutions, including SVIMS, BIRRD, Ruia Hospital and the children's hospital, to improve coordination and medical services.

The proposal also includes encouraging doctors to participate as Srivari Sevaks and provide services through the healthcare system.

Skywalk Between Tirupati Railway Station and Bus Stand

A major urban infrastructure proposal is a skywalk connecting Tirupati Railway Station with the city's bus stand.

Naidu said the project is expected to be taken forward with support from the Union government.

A multi-storey parking facility is also proposed on around 50 acres of recently acquired land. The plan is intended to address parking requirements as pilgrim and visitor traffic continues to put pressure on Tirupati's infrastructure.

Tirumala to Move Towards Net-Zero Development

Environmental sustainability is another major component of the plan.

Naidu said activities in Tirumala and Tirupati should eventually follow a net-zero model. He proposed increasing the use of solar and wind power along with battery storage.

The plan also includes installing solar panels on TTD buildings and adopting a circular-economy approach to waste management.

Naidu said TTD currently consumes around 10 crore units of electricity while generating approximately one crore units, highlighting the scope for expanding renewable-energy generation.

The proposed Vriksha Govindam programme will focus on plantation activities, including the cultivation of medicinal plants.

TTD also plans to conserve water flowing from the seven Tirumala hills to improve groundwater levels.

SV Museum Modernised at Rs 104 Crore

Naidu also highlighted the modernisation of the SV Museum, which he inaugurated during his visit.

The museum was developed by TCS Trust at a reported cost of Rs 104 crore. The trust will maintain and operate the facility for the next five years, according to the announcement.

A new experience centre called Durlabh Darshan has also been established at Vaikuntam Queue Complex-I to present aspects of Lord Venkateswara, Tirumala's history and associated spiritual themes to pilgrims.

TTD Plans to Improve Pilgrim Services

The development programme also focuses on food and other welfare services.

Naidu said the Annaprasadam Trust has a corpus of around Rs 3,165 crore and that steps would be taken to improve the quality of food served to devotees.

The Pranadana Trust has a corpus of Rs 191 crore, while the BIRRD Trust has a corpus of Rs 240 crore, according to the announcement.

Education and Srivari Sevaks

The government also plans to reorganise TTD's education system, with greater emphasis on skills and employment opportunities for students.

Naidu said nearly 12 lakh people across Andhra Pradesh have registered as Srivari Sevaks.

The government intends to expand their participation in temple-related service activities as part of its wider spiritual and social-service programmes.

Housing Sites for 5,192 TTD Employees

The development plans also include measures for TTD employees.

Naidu said steps are being taken to provide house sites to 5,192 TTD employees, with an estimated requirement of around Rs 230 crore.

A new court complex in lower Tirupati is also being developed at a reported cost of approximately Rs 90 crore.

Tirupati to Be Developed as a Service and Wedding Destination

Naidu said Tirupati should develop as a major service hub because of the large number of pilgrims visiting Tirumala.

The government is also considering promoting Tirupati as a wedding destination. Naidu proposed that Srivari Brahmotsavams could also be held in Tirupati in addition to Tirumala.

The objective is to expand economic activity around pilgrimage while improving facilities for visitors.

Brahmotsavams Underway at Tirumala

The announcements come during the annual Srivari Brahmotsavams at Tirumala.

According to TTD's official news updates, the nine-day Brahmotsavams began on September 15, 2026, following the traditional Dhwajarohanam ceremony. The festival is scheduled to continue through September 23.
