The West Bengal Assembly Election Results 2026 are showing a closely contested battle, with the BJP leading in 118 seats and the Trinamool Congress in 107 during early counting trends dominated by postal ballots. With the majority mark set at 148 in the 294-seat Assembly, both parties remain in a tight race. Samik Bhattacharya expressed confidence in a decisive BJP victory, claiming that voters have rejected Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.

West Bengal election results 2026 may go down the wire at least per the vote counting trends at 9am, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) neck-and-neck. The opposition BJP is leading in 118 seats, while the ruling TMC is leading in 107 in early trends during which mostly postal ballots are counted.

Commenting on the early trending, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said he is confident of a landslide victory in the state.
“People of the state have already rejected the Trinamool Congress government, and in a few hours, the overwhelming majority of the seats will confirm that in the fight between Mamata Banerjee and the people, people have rejected Mamata Banerjee," Bhattacharya said outside a counting centre in Kolkata.
