Andhra Businessman Fires Three Rounds After Badminton Team Loses Semi-final in Local Tournament

A local badminton tournament in Andhra Pradesh descended into chaos after a businessman allegedly fired three rounds following his team's defeat in the semi-finals, police said.

The incident reportedly created panic among players, officials and spectators, prompting immediate police intervention.

Gunfire After Semi-final Defeat

According to police, the businessman became enraged after the team he was supporting lost the semi-final match.

In a fit of anger, he allegedly drew a licensed firearm and fired three rounds into the air, causing people present at the venue to run for safety.

No injuries were reported in the firing.

Panic at Tournament Venue

Witnesses said the sound of gunshots led to confusion and fear, with several spectators rushing out of the venue.

Tournament organisers immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The match had concluded before the firing took place.

Police Register Case

Police have registered a case against the businessman under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

The firearm used in the incident has been seized for examination.

Officials are also recording statements from witnesses and tournament organisers as part of the investigation.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are probing the circumstances that led to the firing and whether all conditions of the firearm licence were complied with.

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the sports venue to establish the sequence of events.

Officials said appropriate legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Sportsmanship Under Spotlight

The incident has sparked criticism from local residents and sports enthusiasts, who said acts of violence have no place in sporting events.

Organisers of the tournament condemned the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring player and spectator safety at future competitions.

Looking Ahead

Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation.

The case has highlighted concerns over the misuse of licensed firearms during public events, with authorities expected to review the incident thoroughly before filing further charges, if warranted.
