Andhra Officials Asked to Record Voter Re-Verification
Election authorities in Andhra Pradesh have directed officials to document the voter re-verification exercise through photographs and videos.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav has asked District Election Officers (DEOs) to record the activities taking place during the re-verification of electors who were not included in the draft electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The move has been described by officials as an effort to ensure greater transparency in the exercise.
Door-to-Door Verification From October 8
According to officials, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin door-to-door visits from October 8.
During the exercise, BLOs will carry lists of electors who were not included in the draft roll and conduct verification at their addresses.
The re-verification exercise is aimed at checking the status of electors whose names were not included in the draft electoral rolls during the SIR process.
ASDDO Category Electors
The re-verification will include electors classified under the Absentee, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others (ASDDO) categories.
District Election Officers have been asked to document the process through photos and videos.
Officials will also record testimonials from BLOs explaining the re-verification exercise and related activities.
The documentation is intended to provide a record of the work being carried out by election officials during the process.
Videos of Young and First-Time Voters
The directions also include recording testimonials from young and first-time voters.
Election authorities have asked DEOs to document these interactions as part of the broader re-verification exercise.
The officials have also been instructed to record testimonials from voters whose names were deleted from the draft electoral rolls but were subsequently added after the notice phase.
These activities are intended to document different stages and categories involved in the electoral roll revision process.
Claims, Objections and Notice Phase to Be Recorded
The directions extend beyond door-to-door verification.
Officials have also been asked to record testimonials related to claims, objections and the notice phase.
This will provide visual documentation of the different stages through which voters can raise issues concerning their names in the electoral rolls.
The instructions are part of the broader effort to document the re-verification process being conducted after the draft electoral rolls were prepared.
ERO Briefings for BLOs
Videos of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) briefing Booth Level Officers will also be recorded.
The documentation will cover the instructions and briefings provided to BLOs before and during the re-verification exercise.
This is intended to create a record of how the verification process is being communicated to officials working at the ground level.
DEOs Asked to Use Social Media
Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav has also directed District Election Officers to keep their social media handles active.
DEOs have been instructed to post at least two photos and two videos every day.
The social media activity will provide regular visual updates about the voter re-verification exercise and other related election activities.
The direction is part of the broader emphasis on transparency and public communication during the electoral roll revision process.
College Campaigns for First-Time Voters
The documentation exercise will also include campaigns conducted by District Election Officers in colleges for first-time voters.
Officials have been asked to record videos of these campaigns as part of the overall effort.
The focus on young and first-time voters is intended to document election-related awareness and activities among new voters.
Inclusion Through Continuous Updation
The Election Commission has also said that voters whose names are left out during or after the Special Intensive Revision process can apply for inclusion through continuous updation.
This includes young and first-time voters.
The provision means that voters who find their names missing from the electoral rolls are not excluded permanently and can seek inclusion through the specified process.
Focus on Transparency
The directions issued to Andhra Pradesh election officials place emphasis on documenting the re-verification exercise through photographs, videos and testimonials.
From BLO door-to-door visits to ERO briefings, voter testimonials and college campaigns, several parts of the process will be recorded.
The Chief Electoral Officer has also asked DEOs to maintain active social media accounts and publish at least two photographs and two videos every day.
The re-verification exercise is scheduled to begin with door-to-door visits by BLOs from October 8, using lists of electors who were not included in the draft electoral rolls.
The process will cover ASDDO-category electors as well as other voters affected during the draft-roll stage, while voters whose names were left out can also seek inclusion through continuous updation.
