The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya, providing additional time for the completion of the revision process.
The revised dates were decided at a full Commission meeting held at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi on September 30, attended by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
New SIR dates for Andhra Pradesh
In Andhra Pradesh, the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will now continue until October 10, 2026.
The final electoral roll will subsequently be published on October 16, 2026. The SIR process in the state began on July 31.
The latest extension means the final publication date has moved from October 9 to October 16. This is the second extension of the schedule for the claims-and-objections process in Andhra Pradesh.
Meghalaya final voter list on October 26
For Meghalaya, the Election Commission has fixed October 26, 2026 as the new date for publication of the final electoral roll.
The final list was earlier scheduled for October 21. The state's SIR draft roll was published on August 5, while the claims-and-objections period ended on September 18 under the earlier revised schedule.
What is SIR?
The Special Intensive Revision is a detailed exercise to verify and update electoral rolls. It involves checking voter records and processing claims and objections before the final rolls are published.
The Election Commission has described the exercise as a participatory process involving voters, political parties and election officials.
Why the schedule was revised
The ECI's latest decision provides additional time for completing the procedural stages of the electoral-roll revision.
In Andhra Pradesh, the extension specifically covers the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections, while the final publication has also been pushed back.
In Meghalaya, the principal change announced by the Commission is the postponement of final publication to October 26.
The revisions come as the ECI continues its wider SIR exercise across multiple states and Union territories.
