Ecuador's great escape: From goal drought to FIFA World Cup giant-killers

Ecuador's FIFA World Cup campaign appeared all but over before their final Group E match. Two games, no goals and just one point had left the South Americans needing nothing short of a miracle against four-time world champions Germany.

Instead, they delivered one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

After the final whistle, an emotional Beccacece celebrated with players and supporters, describing the qualification as a triumph for the entire nation. Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa later declared a national holiday to celebrate the team's achievement, reflecting the significance of the result back home.
