New Delhi: Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi has been appointed the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Following his appointment, Joshi said he would focus on understanding the concerns and aspirations of young people and working to channel their energy towards nation-building.
“I will try to know the mind of the youth and mobilise their energy,” Joshi said, outlining his priorities as the new head of the BJP's youth organisation.
Joshi's appointment comes as the BJP seeks to strengthen its engagement with young voters and expand its youth organisation. At 35, he becomes one of the younger leaders to hold a prominent national organisational position within the party.
Joshi entered electoral politics from Vadodara and was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections. He defeated Congress candidate Jaspal Singh Padhiyar in the Vadodara constituency and became a Member of Parliament at the age of 33.
Before entering Parliament, Joshi was active in student and youth politics in Gujarat. His early political involvement included activities at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, where he gained attention for using creative campaigns to raise social issues.
As BJYM president, Joshi is expected to focus on connecting the BJP's youth wing with young people across the country. Issues such as employment, education, entrepreneurship, technology and opportunities for young Indians are likely to remain important areas of engagement.
Joshi has also represented India on international platforms and spoken about issues including terrorism and national security, according to reports about his political career.
His elevation comes at a time when political parties are increasingly focusing on India's large young population. For the BJYM, the challenge will be to translate the organisation's outreach into greater participation among young people and create stronger connections with their aspirations.
Joshi's statement about understanding the “mind of the youth” indicates that listening to young people's concerns will be a key part of his approach as he takes charge of the organisation.
