Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan has opened up about the difficulties he faced during the early years of his acting career, recalling how he was criticised for his height and acting skills and was once asked to leave a film set after arriving late.

The veteran actor shared the memories during a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, where he interacted with Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medallists Lovlina Borgohain, Jhandu Kumar, Sharmila Dhankar and Asmita Dey.

During the conversation, Asmita asked Bachchan whether he had also been reprimanded by seniors when he was beginning his career. The actor responded by recalling some of the harsh criticism he received during his struggling days in the film industry.

Bachchan said he was once told that he did not know how to act and that he was too tall to become an actor. He recalled being told to go back home because of his height.

The actor also remembered another incident involving a film shoot. He said that he had arrived late on a set and was reprimanded by the director, who asked him to leave.

Bachchan's recollections highlight how different his early career was from the extraordinary success he eventually achieved. The physical feature that was once criticised — his towering height — later became one of the most recognisable elements of his screen presence.

The actor also faced several challenges while trying to establish himself in Hindi cinema. His deep voice, which later became one of his biggest trademarks, was initially viewed differently during the early stages of his career.

Despite repeated criticism and rejection, Bachchan continued working and eventually became one of the most influential and celebrated actors in Indian cinema.

His career spanning more than five decades has included hundreds of films and some of the most iconic characters in Hindi cinema. His journey from a struggling newcomer to one of India's biggest film stars has often been cited as an example of perseverance in the entertainment industry.

The actor's latest recollection also resonated with the young athletes appearing on Kaun Banega Crorepati, as they discussed the importance of dealing with criticism and setbacks while pursuing their careers.

Bachchan's story serves as a reminder that qualities once considered weaknesses can sometimes become defining strengths. His height, voice and distinctive screen presence ultimately became important parts of the persona that made him a Bollywood icon.
