A court in Patna has extended educator and YouTuber Khan Sir's interim protection from arrest until June 30 in connection with the alleged firing incident at a coaching institute in the Bihar capital.
The relief came during the hearing of Khan Sir's anticipatory bail plea, with the court directing that the interim protection granted earlier would continue until the next date of hearing. The development offers temporary relief to the popular teacher while the legal proceedings remain underway.
The case relates to an alleged firing incident that took place outside a coaching institute in Patna earlier this month. Following the incident, police registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the episode and identify those responsible.
Khan Sir, whose real name is Faizal Khan, has denied any wrongdoing in the matter. His legal counsel argued before the court that the educator has been cooperating with investigators and that custodial interrogation is not required at this stage of the probe.
During the hearing, the defence submitted that Khan Sir had no direct involvement in the alleged incident and sought continued protection from arrest until the court decides on his anticipatory bail application. After considering the submissions, the court extended the interim relief until June 30.
The prosecution, meanwhile, informed the court that the investigation is still in progress and sought time to place the case diary and other relevant documents on record. The court is expected to examine these materials during the next hearing before deciding on the plea.
The firing incident had triggered concern in Patna's education hub, where several coaching centres operate. Police have questioned multiple individuals and are examining CCTV footage, witness statements and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Khan Sir is one of India's most popular educators on YouTube, known for his affordable coaching classes and current affairs lectures. He commands a massive online following and runs coaching institutes in Patna catering to students preparing for competitive examinations.
The latest court order means Khan Sir cannot be arrested in connection with the case until June 30, unless the court issues fresh directions. The anticipatory bail plea is expected to come up for further hearing after the prosecution files its response and the investigation progresses.
The case continues to draw attention from students and followers of the educator, while legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming days.
