Mumbai, October 2, 2026: Amitabh Bachchan is known for his quick wit and warm conversations with contestants on Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, and a recent episode delivered another amusing moment when a contestant admitted that she had actually fallen asleep while watching one of his films.
Contestant Almas Khan from Jaipur shared a childhood memory with Bachchan during the show. She recalled going with her cousins to watch his 1997 film Mrityudaata at Jaipur's iconic Raj Mandir theatre.
According to Almas, she was quite young at the time and did not understand the film very well. However, the comfortable theatre and its air-conditioning apparently made her so relaxed that she eventually fell asleep.
‘When I woke up, the film was over’
Almas explained that Mrityudaata was the first Amitabh Bachchan film she remembered watching in a theatre.
She told the actor that after falling asleep, she woke up only to discover that the movie had already ended and one of Bachchan's songs was playing on the screen. Despite missing much of the film, she still remembered it as her first theatrical experience of watching a Bachchan movie.
The unexpected confession prompted Bachchan to respond with his trademark humour.
Amitabh Bachchan's hilarious response
Hearing Almas' story, Bachchan jokingly pointed out the obvious contradiction in her account.
“Sote sote kaise dekh liya aapne, picture toh khatam ho gayi thi na?” he asked, essentially saying, “How did you watch the film while sleeping? The film had already ended, right?”
The playful exchange turned the contestant's childhood confession into one of the lighter moments of the episode.
What was Mrityudaata about?
Released in 1997, Mrityudaata was directed by Mehul Kumar and featured Amitabh Bachchan as Dr Ram Prasad Ghayal, a respected surgeon.
The film also starred Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor and Arbaaz Ali Khan, among others. It marked Bachchan's return to the big screen after a break and remains one of the films associated with his 1990s career.
KBC 18 continues to mix quiz questions with personal stories
Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 continues to feature contestants from across India, with their personal experiences often becoming part of their conversations with Bachchan.
Almas Khan's appearance was also covered in connection with her journey on the show. She later answered incorrectly on a ₹12.5 lakh question about US presidents named James, according to The Indian Express.
The Mrityudaata anecdote, however, offered a particularly light-hearted interaction, with Bachchan turning an unexpectedly honest confession into a joke that left the contestant and the audience amused.
