‘Deool Band 2’ Director Responds to Backlash Over Shah Rukh Khan’s Support: ‘Give Credit to Those Who Deserve It’

Mumbai: The director of the upcoming Marathi film Deool Band 2 has spoken out against criticism linked to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's support for the project, saying those who contribute to a film’s journey deserve appropriate recognition.

The filmmaker’s remarks come after discussions emerged online regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s association with and encouragement of the film. While details of the controversy varied across social media platforms, the debate largely centered on the extent of the actor’s role and whether his contribution was being highlighted disproportionately.

Responding to the backlash, the director maintained that acknowledging support from prominent figures should not diminish the efforts of others involved in a project. He stressed that recognition should be based on actual contributions and that individuals who help a film reach wider audiences deserve appreciation.

“Give credit to those who deserve it,” the director said, defending the decision to acknowledge Shah Rukh Khan’s support. According to him, support from established personalities can play a valuable role in increasing visibility for regional films and helping them connect with broader audiences.

The comments have sparked fresh conversations about the relationship between regional cinema and mainstream Bollywood. In recent years, collaborations, endorsements and expressions of support from major stars have often helped smaller productions attract national attention and reach viewers beyond their traditional markets.

Deool Band 2 is among the notable Marathi releases generating interest ahead of its debut. The film serves as a sequel to the original Deool Band, which earned recognition among audiences for its storytelling and cultural themes. Expectations are high for the follow-up project, particularly among fans of Marathi cinema.

Industry observers note that endorsements from leading actors can significantly influence audience awareness in an increasingly competitive entertainment landscape. Social media, in particular, has amplified the impact of celebrity support, allowing recommendations and promotional messages to reach millions of people instantly.

At the same time, discussions around credit and recognition remain sensitive topics within the film industry. Filmmakers, actors and technicians often emphasize the collaborative nature of cinema, arguing that success is rarely attributable to a single individual.

The director’s response appears aimed at shifting attention away from controversy and back toward the film itself. He reiterated that appreciation should extend to everyone who contributes positively to a project, whether through creative involvement, promotion or public encouragement.

Fans have offered mixed reactions to the debate. While some believe Shah Rukh Khan’s support naturally draws attention due to his stature, others have echoed the director’s view that all contributors should receive due acknowledgment without diminishing anyone else's role.

As Deool Band 2 prepares for release, the discussion highlights the growing influence of celebrity endorsements in Indian cinema and the ongoing conversation about how recognition is distributed within the entertainment industry.
