Saif Ali Khan Says He Is ‘100% Not Over’ Stabbing Attack: ‘If I See a Knife, It Just Makes Me React’

More than a year after the terrifying stabbing at his Mumbai home, Saif Ali Khan has revealed that the incident continues to affect him.

In a recent conversation with Bombay Times, the actor said that although his family was able to move forward relatively quickly, he himself has not completely recovered from the experience. Certain reminders of that night, particularly knives, can still trigger an immediate reaction. 

‘I am still not 100% over it’

Speaking about the attack, Saif said, “I am still not 100% over it because if I see a knife, it just makes me react.” His comments highlight that while the physical injuries have healed, the incident continues to have an emotional and psychological impact. 

The actor also reflected on how narrowly he escaped a much worse outcome. He said he often thinks about how lucky he was that the knife broke during the attack.

Saif reportedly described the weapon as particularly fortunate in the circumstances, saying that a more effective knife could have had fatal consequences. 

What happened in January 2025?

Saif was attacked by an intruder at his Bandra residence in the early hours of January 16, 2025, during an alleged burglary attempt. He suffered multiple stab wounds and required emergency surgery at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.

The actor was discharged several days later and subsequently spoke publicly about the incident, including the moment when his son Taimur asked whether he was going to die. Saif recalled reassuring him that he would be fine. 

The criminal case is still moving through the courts. A Mumbai sessions court recently rejected the accused's guilty plea, meaning the case will proceed to trial. 

Saif says he wants to forgive the attacker

Despite the trauma, Saif said he would like to forgive the man accused of attacking him.

The actor suggested that inequality and desperation can contribute to crime and said he believed the accused may not have fully understood what he was doing at the time. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate. 

His comments show a striking contrast between the continuing trauma of the attack and his stated desire not to carry resentment.

‘You shouldn't tempt fate’

Saif has previously said the experience changed his attitude towards life and personal safety. Looking back at the night, he recalled feeling that death was a real possibility and said the experience taught him not to take his safety for granted. 

Now, while promoting his latest film Haiwaan, in which he stars alongside Akshay Kumar, Saif's candid reflections have once again brought attention to the lasting impact of the attack.

His admission that even seeing a knife can trigger a reaction underlines how traumatic experiences can remain with a person long after the immediate physical danger has passed.
