Shubman Gill Smashes 200, Becomes Only Second Batter With Multiple ODI Double Centuries

India captain Shubman Gill produced a stunning batting performance against West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. Gill reached his second ODI double century in spectacular fashion, becoming only the second batter in men's ODI cricket to record more than one score of 200 or more.

Gill reached the landmark in just 117 deliveries, making his innings the fastest ODI double century according to the report. His aggressive approach helped India maintain momentum while chasing a massive target of 406 runs set by West Indies.

Gill's 62-ball century also created another record. It became the fastest ODI century by an Indian captain, surpassing the previous mark held by Rohit Sharma, who had reached a century in 63 balls in October 2023.

The innings continued a strong run of form for Gill in the series against West Indies. In the first ODI, he scored 110 runs from 108 deliveries and played a major role in India's victory. In that match, Virat Kohli also produced a significant contribution, finishing unbeaten on 139 from 88 balls.

In the second ODI, Gill's partnership with Rohit once again gave India a strong start in the chase. His attacking batting was particularly important because West Indies had posted a huge total earlier in the match.

West Indies scored 405 for seven, their highest-ever ODI total, after their batters took advantage of a flat pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scored centuries for the visitors. Campbell struck 101 from 68 balls, including nine fours and five sixes. Captain Shai Hope scored 104 from 94 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes.

Jangoo then produced another aggressive hundred, scoring 114 from 77 deliveries with 13 fours and three sixes. Their combined performances helped West Indies reach 405 runs and put India under significant pressure in the run chase.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the leading wicket-taker, finishing with figures of 2 for 65.

The enormous target created the perfect setting for Gill to produce one of the most significant ODI innings of his career. His second double century not only strengthened his growing reputation as an ODI batter but also placed him in an exclusive statistical group alongside Rohit Sharma.
